Re: Can someone explain in simple plain English for me please.
I found this online:
Hydrolyzed gelatin is made
mostly from frozen and fresh pork skins as well as cattle bones and hides.
These inedible connective tissues and bones are then run through a series
of caustic baths, intermittently with hot and cold soakings to separate
out the collagen... Hydrolyzed is the basis for gelatin dessert, and although it might be a fun food,
it was not designed to build muscle mass and it won't.
I also found:
As a supplement, hydrolyzed gelatin is used to strengthen connective
tissue and bones, and it may help heal cartilage and bone injuries as
well... Some supplement retailers suggest it may encourage the body to burn fats
rather than proteins or carbohydrates for energy from food, thereby
facilitating weight loss. Furthermore they say, hydrolyzed gelatin is
said to help maintain lean muscle mass, which also promotes weight loss.
There is no evidence any of this is true (one product making such
claims -- Body Solutions -- was sued by the FTC for making false and
unsubstantiated claims)...
Hydrolyzed gelatin is used in cooking and to make the coating for
supplements and medications that come in capsule or tablet form. It is
also used in conditioners for hair and fingernails because of its
strengthening properties. A dry powder form of hydrolyzed gelatin is
created from bone and cartilage by crushing and defatting it and then
processing it to remove calcium and break the collagen bonds.
The product is then dehydrated to form a powder that can be
reconstituted. Hydrolyzed gelatin is a food product, so it is not
associated with any side effects or drug interactions and there are no
specific dosage recommendations. When used topically in hair or nail
conditioners, it may cause skin irritations in people who are allergic
to it.

Hajj : Did it when I was about 5 years muslim. I found the constant moving around form one place to another to be very unsettling. But alhamdililah I got to touch the Qaba. Medina was wonderful. The trips between Safa and Marwa most enjoyable.

Weight Watchers works on keeping a food diary, eating a given allowance of food daily, and weekly, drinking lots of water, moving more and eating lower energy dense foods. You must keep within your propoints allowance to lose weight. Exercise is optional

Asalam alaikom sisters
I don't know about you but I am finding going back and re-reading the posts to be very educational! I had forgotten what hydrolyzed gelatin was. Just know that we can't eat gelatin from pigs. and if it doesn't specify the animal I avoid it totally. You can get halal gelatine products such as jelly in most of the halal shops but it is full of sugar so NOT good for those on a diet.
